How to get a color name from a picture

  1. Add the image. Choose a file, drag it onto the box or paste a screenshot. JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF and, in most browsers, HEIC photos from an iPhone all work.
  2. Point at the color. On a computer, move the mouse over the image: the magnifier shows the exact pixel and the name updates live. On a phone, touch and drag, then lift your finger to choose.
  3. Read and copy. The panel shows the closest common name, the most precise name and the HEX, RGB and HSL codes, each with a copy button.

Under the image you will also find the main colors of the picture, found by grouping similar pixels, with a rough share of the image for each. Click one to name it.

Your photos stay private

The image is opened by your browser and drawn on a canvas on your own device. It is never sent to our server or anyone else, and it disappears when you close the page. That is also why the tool works instantly, even with large photos.

Questions

How can I find the name of a color in a photo?

Open the photo with the tool above and tap the color. You will see its name, the similarity to the named reference color and its HEX code.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser. The image is never uploaded, stored or seen by us.

Can I get the HEX code of a color in an image?

Yes. Every color you pick shows its HEX, RGB, HSL and OKLCH values with copy buttons.

Why is the name different from what I expected?

Lighting, camera processing and compression change the colors a camera records. The tool reports the actual pixel. Try a few points across the area and compare.
